A Passionate Finale to a Progressive Term!
Our final session of the term ended on a high note, with Paul making his debut as session chair. Drawing on his experience delivering training in both the UK and the US, Paul guided us with confidence and encouragement. We welcomed 17 attendees, including first-timers Elissa and the dynamic mother-and-son duo, Nino and Ethan, who made fantastic contributions!
The evening began with a warm-up game designed to spark creativity: each of us added one word to build a shared story. However, convincing a room of budding public speakers to follow a plot proved trickier than expected! Paul’s patience shone as laughter replaced logic, prompting a smooth pivot to word association—helping us loosen up and find our rhythm.
With energy building, we stepped onto the (slightly raised!) stage for a lively gibberish exercise. Paired up, we spoke nonsense with passion, while our partners deciphered what our imaginary monologues might have meant. It was a brilliant reminder that communication is about so much more than words.
In trios, we then created stories one few lines at a time—revealing that aliens, for some reason, seem to invade many of our subconscious minds!
After a short break, the session culminated in speeches on our passions—a truly inspiring highlight. From President Joe’s reflections on public speaking to debutant Nino’s heartfelt ode to family and Sedrah’s moving insight into being a doctor, each speaker shared something personal and powerful.
This term has been a triumph, welcoming 40 different speakers and fostering a vibrant community of voices.
