Practice and Mistakes are the only way to learn!
I saw this picture stuck up in a coffee shop the other day and it made me think why practice and making mistakes is the best way to get better and learn.
This is particularly true for public speaking.
As Scott Berkin says in his wonderful book – Confessions of a Public Speaker
“Practice requires no special intelligence or magical powers – but most people don’t (practice) because:
- It takes time
- They feel silly doing it
- They assume no one else does
- Their fear of speaking leads to procrastination, creating a self fulling prophecy of misery”
An actor practices their lines. A singer rehearses before a performance. Why would you not practice a presentation before delivering it? As a speaker, you are a performer.
Come to Wimbledon Speakers, practice and make your mistakes in a fun, friendly environment. Do what other don’t. Learn and get better.
