Wimbledon Speakers Club all set to begin its 20th year!

wsc

The new term at Wimbledon Speakers Club is just around the corner with the first meeting after the Summer break to take place on Wednesday 13th September at 7.30pm. We look forward to welcoming both new and old friends back to the club as we embark on an exciting year ahead.

And as well as being an exciting year ahead, it is also a celebratory year as our club celebrates its 20th anniversary! Since 1998, we have welcomed hundreds of people through the door who have visited the club in order to develop both their confidence and skills in a variety of forms of verbal communication and public speaking in a fun, friendly and supportive environment.

As well as our typical meeting programme which covers improvised speaking, prepared speeches & speech evaluation, we also intersperse these with other word games, debates and other light-hearted entertainment, all of which helps to improve our public speaking skills. You never stop learning at Wimbledon Speakers Club! For those wishing to take part, we also run annual club competitions in the 3 key speaking disciplines of impromptu speeches, prepared speeches and speech evaluation, the winners of which go on to compete in the national competitions.

So whether you’re a total beginner or more advanced, no matter whether you’re preparing to give a speech at a wedding, a work presentation or just want to improve your overall speaking confidence, Wimbledon Speakers Club is for you!

Our meetings are held on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month at the William Morris Rooms (267, The Broadway, Wimbledon, SW19 1SD) from 7.30pm-9.30pm, so come along and see what we’re all about!

WSC Speech Competition

With only three meetings left this calendar year the annual speech competition is fast approaching.  This is held on our last meeting of the year which is the 9th of December.  The competition is open to all members of Wimbledon Speakers Club regardless of length of membership or experience.  The theme will be announced at our first November meeting and will be decided by our immediate past president Michael.  We would encourage everyone to have a go as it is great experience.  This is also an excellent meeting to attend as you get to see how different speakers tackle the same subject. There will still be the usual opportunity for participation in topics prior to the competition.

The New Season Is Nearly Here

Each year we take July and August off from Wimbledon Speakers Club for two reasons.  One is to recharge the creative juices ready to start afresh in September, the other is a more practical point that it is holiday season and people want to spend time either at home or away with family.

We look forward to welcoming back our regulars and also invite anybody thinking of joining to come along as our guest to check out the meeting before making the commitment to join.

The speakers club is great not just if you are looking to be a public speaker but helps to build confidence for all areas of life where speaking is necessary including just meeting new people, work meetings, network events.

Our first meeting is on Wednesday 9th July at our usual venue, William Morris House, between Wimbledon Station and South Wimbledon Station.  The meetings start at 7:30 pm and you can park for free in the surrounding roads after 7:00 pm.

I will be chairing the first meeting and you are assured of a warm welcome and a coffee or tea of various kinds during the interval.

Best regards

Peter Lawrence
