Wimbledon Annual Speech Contest

December 10th saw a very high quality Annual Speech Contest.
Speaking to the theme of ‘Rules and Chaos’ Barry Watts came out as winner ahead of a very strong field of entries.
The 2 judges were Katherine Inglis and Alice Herron – both National Speech contest prize winners.
And they needed all their experience to separate a very tight contest.

Barry, pictured right, will now go on to represent Wimbledon at the London Area final early in the New Year.

A triple Champion with a difference

Well done to Wimbledon Speakers’ Michael Ronayne.
On Sunday April 27th 2014, Michael won the National Association of Speakers Clubs’ UK Speech Evaluation Final.
What is remarkable is that Michael has now been crowned UK National Champion in each of the 3 speaking disciplines: prepared speech, impromptu speaking and now speech analysis and evaluation.
It is a fine achievement to be recognised as excellent in one discipline.
It is a fine achievement to be recognised as an excellent all-rounder.
It is something rare to be recognised as both.

London Area Contests

Congratulations go to Alice for winning the London Area Speech contest. Alice produced a very polished free-flowing speech, drawing together disparate themes of London landmarks with courteousness and even branching into the status of the modern woman. The judges were clearly impressed with her style and delivery.
Congratulations also to Michael for coming away as the winner of the Evaluation contest. Lissi also performed well in the Topics contest, but was not placed in the final reckoning. An excellent showing from our Wimbledon speakers. We wish Alice and Michael the best of luck at the District finals on Sunday March 23rd in Maidstone.
